presents our FREE annual harnessing and driving clinic

9AM-4PM in Snohomish, Washington

9am – 12pm   Harnessing

12pm – 1pm   Lunch provided

1pm – 4pm   Driving

Topics will include single horses and teams, collar fit, harnessing, driving, safety and horsemanship. Volunteer teamsters/teachers/mentors will be on hand with a broad variety of experience and knowledge, fueled by a desire to share their enthusiasm for draft horses. No advance registration is needed, just come on down! The weather should be great!

Clinic location: "Horse Head Quarters" 11431 Old Snohomish-Monroe Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290

• From I-405 Exit onto Hwy 522 toward Monroe
• Exit onto E Main Street
• At roundabout go left onto E Main St (This turns into Old Snohomish-Monroe Rd)
• Continue past Lord Hill sign
• Drive downhill into the valley
• Continue past signs for: Craven Farm, Treosti Rd, French Creek (at bridge)
• Horse Head Quarters will be on the right, just after the little French Creek Bridge. The entrance is tucked into a line of several tall trees. Look for the red “Draft Horse Clinic” sign!

Show Committee Meeting Rescheduled

The Show Committee Meeting that was previously scheduled for Saturday, April 13th has been moved to Saturday, April 27th. The meeting will still be at the Snohomish County Search and Rescue Building at 5506 Old Machias Road, Snohomish, WA 98290 from 10AM to 2PM.

Also of note: Sadly, the plowing bee at Mother Earth Farms has been canceled this year due to the soaking rains we have received the last couple weeks.

2013 Old Time Farm Days

Four events in the spring and fall give enthusiasts of both draft horses and antique farming equipment the opportunity to watch history replayed in the plowing, seeding and harvesting of wheat in Eastern Washington.

April 6 & 7 in Pomeroy, April 13 & 14 in Odessa, April 20 & 21 in Colfax are plowing and seeding days. September 2nd (Labor Day) is the Threshing Bee in Colfax. For full details, see the flier attached below.

Persons wishing to bring a team and participate should contact the individual associated with each event. This information can also be found on the flier.

2013 Old Time Farming Days Flier

UPDATE: The following information was sent by Michelle Overmyer, for those of you planning on attending Odessa Old Time Farm Days:

"Hi all:  Just a info update on Odessa Old Time Farm Days:

Teamster Parking / Camping:   Pete has a new parking area for the Teamsters:  Most likely the grass area before you go up towards the shop on the East side of the Gravel Road, Kind of in the area were the food booth was last year:  So please ask before parking:  This will put us all at the North end of the field, closer to the unloading chute, food vendor, spectators and shop for ease:  No sleeping in the shop, so please be sure to bring your own camping/tent:  There is hotels in Odessa available only 5 miles away:  contact Pete or myself if you are in need of a number for the Hotel.

By doing this we will get to plow entire field running north and south and extend out a tad to the West – so a little more ground to plow this year:

Spectator Parking:  Same Place as last year – North end of field on West side of Gravel Road:

Food Vendor:  Odessa FFA will be serving Lunch Saturday and Sunday both: along with beverages and snack during the day: 

Tables and Benches will be set outside by the vendor booth as last year for lunch time meals:  You are welcome to support the local FFA or bring your own lunch fixings:

Facility:  For the teamsters we are able to use the Heated Shop again this year for gathering and eating our morning and night meals, hanging out if weather bad:  There is a nice bathroom with Shower and utility sink if needed:  We may even have a little entertainment this year:

NO Corrals – so you will have to tie to your trailers or bring own Temporary fencing:

FRIDAY NIGHT  - Potluck like last year around 7:30 ish or whenever most of us get there and are landed:  So bring your favorite dish or dishes of food, serving utensil and beverage  - We will be able to use the shop as last year for gathering for our teamster meals:    we will supply the Plates, Napkins, Silverware, Condiments, Coffee, Hot Coco, Tables, benches,  No ovens, so bring food prepared if hot if needed:  There is electrical in shop to plug into if needed:

SAT/SUND Morning: Breakfast provided by Pet/Maria – Jon /Michelle – We might need a couple extra hands flipping pancakes and possibly use Kay and Stan’s Propane Grill:  besides the main breakfast meal, we will have muffins and fruit available:

SATURDAY NIGHT:  DICKY BURGERS! Master Dicky Burger chef – Dick Blakley will be flipping burgers and hot dogs and telling stories for all of you to enjoy:  All you need to bring is a side dish and beverage:  Everything else provided:

Serving Utensils:  Please bring your own and be sure to mark your serving utensils if possible:  We will have some available If you should have a senior moment:

DESSERT:     All are welcome to bring a dessert/cookies and set on the dessert table to munch on throughout the weekend:

LEMON BARS:  Karleen I hope Jon has time to make your lemon bars:

The 2013 WDHMA Spring Meeting has been scheduled for March 16th. Marcia Buckner has arranged with Joe Wardlaw to once again allow us the use of the Snohomish County Volunteers building at 5506 Old Machias Road, Snohomish, WA 98290-5574.

The Board meeting will begin at 10:00AM and the General meeting will begin at 11:00AM.

Lunch will be at about noon and it will be potluck; please bring a dish to share. The Association will provide beverages, utensils, napkins, plates, bowls and cups.

Directions from I-5 (Everett):

• Take exit 194 and head east on US HWY 2 / Stevens Pass Highway.
• Take the exit for HWY 9 (Arlington/Bothell) and turn left (north) onto HWY 9 (toward Arlington).
• Take your first right, onto Bunk Foss Road.
• Travel about 1 mile down Bunk Foss. Turn right at the stop sign (Old Machias Rd) and go through the yellow pipe gate. Stay on that road and go through the next pair of gates that warn you about surveillance and “Authorized Personnel Only”. Continue to follow the road up to the top of the hill. The meeting will be upstairs in building B3.
